Copy cell contents to another sheet, update change (WinXP Excel 2003)

To track staff holidays and sick, I use a list of names in column A, with cols for each day of the year. Of course I have to have two sheets (as Excel won't allow 365 columns), Jan to June and Jul to Dec. How can I make the list of names appear on the second sheet, and update changes made on the first sheet, such as days carried forward etc. Also can the 'comment' attached to a cell be copied over? I suppose sheet two needs an 'equals sheet one cell ref' for the corresponding cell, but how to do this? Many thanks. Frank

    Hi Frank

Why not have the staff names across the top as column headings and the dates as rows, you could then have 179 years listed <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

If you want to copy the names from sheet1 into sheet2 you could put on sheet2 =sheet1!A1 etc. and copy down, substitute sheet1 with the name of the originating sheet and A1 with the first cell you want to mirror and then copy down.

    Cheers

    I agree with Steve's recommendation,
    BUT to answer your questions:
You can link to the contents of of another sheet. To have the same value of Sheet1 A1 in Sheet2!A1 in Sheet2 A1 enter the formula:

    =Sheet1!A1

It can be copied down the column. Copy or sorting in Sheet1 will adjust the values.

Comments can not be referenced with formulas, it would take a custom function to read the contents but it not be a comment.

Thanks for these ideas, I guess turning it on its side would be best overall. The formula works perfectly for now. Frank
