DirectX Diagnostic Tool

When using this tool, under the DirectXFiles/Notes- the following appears:
file iac25_32.ax is a beta version which is unsupported and could cause problems. Reinstall DirectX to get the latest version.
The latest version is 8.0 (4.08.00.0400).
Is this something that CAN be corrected or is this just one of the common 'notes' that show up even if OS has the correct version, etc.????
I don't want to be messing around with stuff that doesn't need fixing.
Any suggestions?
Thanx.

Re: DirectX Diagnostic Tool

You'd be best off installing the latest version of DirectX (currently at version 8.1a) at the Microsoft website.

It's NOT a normal error message!

What now?

Hmmmmm.......Microsoft's instructions didn't work. I can't believe it, that never happens .

I can think of two things:

1) Ignore the error, and see if there are any ill-effects. Quite possibly you'll never notice anything. The file appears to be an audio codec - Indeo

Thanx for your help...I also re-checked my winupdate listing..I HAD d/l that thing when it first came out..I knew it looked (website page) familiar...grrrr...anyway..I am afraid of re-naming anything like that - I am the type that Murphy's Law applies to...I must be a distant relative of his-...so I will just ignore it for now
Now..what would I look for if I do start to have problems...or is that just too complicated/long of an answer?
I hate seeing 'notes' with a negative aspect to it..my fingers want to fix it
Thanks again for your help.
Oh yes...Microsoft instructions didn't work???They ALWAYS do?

> I am afraid of re-naming anything like that
Don't be, the worse that could happen is that you'll get an error message and then you name it back again. Deleting I would stay away from because you can't replace it once it's gone.

What would you look for? I would suspect streaming video, or audio, something related to media playback. Possibly a game, if you run any. But the honest asnwer to that question probably lies in the mind of the software developers that reference that particular file.

> I hate seeing 'notes' with a negative aspect to it..my fingers want to fix it
I know that one all too well, but sometimes, ya got to pick and choose your battles - at least Windows boots and (hopefully) behaves reasonably well!

Re: DirectX Diagnostic Tool

If you're outside the US/Canada, then you'd be better off buying acomputer magazine and getting it off the cover CD. Since Microsoft won't deign to have local servers, the download times on those transatlantic phone lines are soooo slow - the last time I tried to download DirectX, I had to turn off power management, or my PC would shut down before it completed (and then it took all night!)

I think the reason I don't re-name things..is because I don't know what to do in the first place...like I said..I don't mess with things I don't know anything about...registry/renaming...etc...

I had to download the Indeo codecs 2.5 and the Indeo Video Legacy software updates 3.2, 4.5, and 5.11

After doing the installation and re-starting...I checked the DirectX Checker...no nasty notes
Thanks to all that helped...I appreciate it very much.
