Even more sad is the fact that I am in the middle of this with, I assume a major Software Developer at the moment.
I have never seen such nor had to read such stupidity in all my life, the greatest problem is there is no direct access to the Company at any level without web based forms, which require all model and serial numers of your system components.
Is it correct protocol to name the product in the lounge?

Um, what has a "major software developer" to do with freebie sites awarding 5 stars to each submitted product?

It was more my question regarding inadequate support, I did not name the Company for fear of breaking the Lounge rules. The distant relationship I linked is that the freebie site states it does nothing, the Company to which I am referring claims a lot.

If you think the Lounge can help you with your problem, you should start a new thread, since it is not really related to this one.

Re: Caveat emptor

Thanks Hans, I have searched the lounge and see that there is another post similar to mine. The amazing thing is I have just received acknowledgement of my registration. That has been a major source of the problem, I tried every file attachment I could find to convince them that I had a genuine version but "They didn't believe me". Now they acknowledge my registration after a week.
I will leave it and see whether the service now improves.
If I have further comment I will start a thread.
What is the policy of the lounge of poor service and software that does not live up to the hype?

If you think it would help other Loungers if you told them about your experiences, you can post about it, but please do so in a calm manner. Ranting or slander will not be allowed.

>> What is the policy of the lounge of poor service and software that does not live up to the hype?

Personally speaking, I would say that it really depends on the software in question. We are not here to bad-mouth software, however much it might deserve it. If it is something that might be considered a scam, or software that a number of Loungers would be tempted to purchase, there may be grounds to issue a warning. However, there is so much rubbish out there, we would be quickly swamped if everyone who had a justifiable grievance decided to make a complaint here!

It is more usual for Loungers to ask for recommendations and comments about specific software or software types before taking the plunge, but I know from my own experience that that is not always the way things happen in practice

If I am going to spend anything over 100/US$200 (and not through a third party like Digital River to whom I would like to think I could make a claim), I would also like to think that I would remember to check their contact details. There are a surprising number of websites that list no address, telephone number or email address that I would be very wary of. Having said that, in theory you should always be able to make contact using postmaster@company.com, webmaster@company.com or perhaps even sales@company.com.

Perhaps there are more sites like the aptly named Computer Gripes out there, or user forums specific to the software/vendor you are referring to, but I suspect that most user-comments would be of the negative type. Human nature tends to mean we complain more than praise, so you would not necessarily get a balanced review.

If you do continue to have problems with the vendor/developer, it may be worth starting a thread along the lines of "I am having a problem getting an acceptable response or service from company xyz - has anyone here had any experience in how to get through to a human being there?"

No problem, and no required.
And here's the other side of the coin, with a refreshingly honest and open appraisal of a product ::: NaDa :::.
