    Zone Alarm Default Icon

Whenever I run CCleaner Registry, I get this item everytime.

"Invalid Default Icon Frogram FilesZoneLabsZone AlarmUPDclient.exe,-279" ( in Reg Key: HKCRZAMail SafeDefault Icon )

CCleaner removes the key and the next time I check, ZA has put it back again. The only option I see is to enable or disable Mail Safe. ( it is enabled )

Any idea why the default icon is invalid? This is just annoying, not a real problem, per se.

Is that the correct path to the updclient program? Usually the next number is an index to the icon. That would mean the progam would have an extremely large number of icons in it.

    Re: Zone Alarm Default Icon

    Joe,
Actually, I found it is NOT the path to the UPDClient.exe file.
I did a WE search and found the file in the WindowsSystem32Zone Labs folder.

Copied the file over to the F:Program FilesZLZA folder and renamed the file in System32ZL folder temporarliy.
Now running CCleaner doesn't find any issues!

I wonder just where the file SHOULD be?
Could another Lounger using ZA Free do a Search and let me know where they find this file in their system?

    Re: Zone Alarm Default Icon

I too run ZA free, Bob and found the file in the same place as you (see attachment). I don't run CCleaner so I don't know about the problem. A search of Regedit also turned up the same file-call but I don't know or can't tell if it was in the same hive as yours. Sorry, not much help I know.

    Re: Zone Alarm Default Icon

The reg call was in HKCRZAMAIL SafeDefault icon.

I don't keep anything in my Prefetch folder except the BOOT info, so that part looks OK.

Only the folks at ZoneLabs would know where it really should be. Have you checked their forum?

    Re: Zone Alarm Default Icon

    Joe,
Yes, I have and it appears that this is an acknowledged "glitch" that has been showing up for a long time now.
There were a few "fixes" suggested, including modifying the Reg to point to System32 instead of Zone Labs folders. The hang up wasis that ZA changes the reg location back to Zone Labs at the next boot!

So it looks like my "solution" is the best way to satisfy both ZA and CCleaner!

This has been submitted to ZA Tech Support a number of times but there has been no answer except the finger pointing bit where ZA says it is CCleaner's fault and vise versa.

    Whatever! <img src=/S/dizzy.gif border=0 alt=dizzy width=15 height=15>

I'll consider it fixed for my thinking anyway.

    Re: Zone Alarm Default Icon

Bob, I have just been clearing the "fix box" in CCleaner for this issue, along with a couple of other "unused file extensions" CCleaner wants to remove but I believe are valid and may one day be necessary, and so I also clear those.
