    History Icons Tags (6.0)

    The url icons that I see when I click on history in the I.E. toolbar used to show the... how should I say...definition/tag of the url, not the url itself beside the url icon. Since last week this isn't the case anymore on my home pc which has Windows XP SP1. Now instead of, e.g., "Viewing list of forums" I get "http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/wwwthreads.pl?Cat=&C=2"
    How can I get the former visualisation back?

    Hi Giorgio

    Here is one of my favourite <img src=/S/pun.gif border=0 alt=pun width=22 height=18> tips from <!profile=Leif>Leif<!/profile> <post:=417,910>post 417,910</post:>

    Re: History Icons Tags (6.0)

    Hi Jerry <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>, that post is about FavIcons in the Address Bar, I'm talking about the tags that accompany the URL icons in the History window. Just to make sure, I've tried pressing Ctrl while refreshing(F5) the window but the tags don't go from url address to definition, as explained in my previous post. Interesting to note the definition appears when I first open the page but after moving on to other pages, the tag visualisation reverts back to the plain url address. I guess I just have to reinstall I.E.

    If you're going to reinstall anyway, I strongly recommend upgrading to Internet Explorer 7 - many of the security holes in IE6 have been plugged in IE7.

    Thank you Hans, I've been thinking of doing that because of other advantages I.E. 7 offers such as the possibility to natively access RSS feeds. The only thing that stopped me was I didn't want to install XP SP2 <img src=/S/notmyfault.gif border=0 alt=notmyfault width=15 height=15>

    Re: History Icons Tags (6.0)

    Tried it in 2006 but it was botched because it didn't complete. I removed the firewall anyway because I didn't like it and kept SP2 for a couple of days but then I removed it because there were things that didn't work. I ought to purchase a Vista-loaded laptop in a few days anyway and that's why I was asking about Two Computers on the Same DSL Modem <img src=/S/bravo.gif border=0 alt=bravo width=16 height=30>(I've never quite understood what the emoticon hand is doing in this one, looks like an obscene gesture to me, is it? Or this one <img src=/S/pun.gif border=0 alt=pun width=22 height=18>, is it a face with a wide-open mouth?)

    If you're going to Vista very soon, there seems to be little point in trying to solve the problem with the display of history items in IE6.

    If you're sticking with Windows XP for a while longer, you really should install SP2 and IE7. SP2 has been out for almost three-and-a-half years now, and any initial kinks have been ironed out long ago.

    (The gesture in the bravo smiley is thumbs-up, not a raised middle finger. The pun smiley is indeed a face, with closed eyes and a wide-open mouth)

    Thank you Hans, I'm keeping my current pc around too.
    I know it's out of context but what does <img src=/S/threadhead.gif border=0 alt=threadhead width=28 height=31> have to do with the embroidery and monogramming industry?

    Nothing - <img src=/S/flatcat.gif border=0 alt=flatcat width=61 height=21> and <img src=/S/threadhead.gif border=0 alt=threadhead width=28 height=31> refer to the two ways of viewing the Lounge: in flat mode and in threaded mode. I don't think anyone has used these smileys recently, they're left over from the early days of the Lounge.

    Have you tried deleting your History, closing IE, and restarting IE?

    Yesterday I inadvertently unplugged the pc while it was still on. When I restarted it, the history icons tags had found their way back. <img src=/S/scratch.gif border=0 alt=scratch width=25 height=29> <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20> <img src=/S/confused3.gif border=0 alt=confused3 width=45 height=45>

    You mean that you didn't restart Windows before posting the problem? <img src=/S/drop.gif border=0 alt=drop width=23 height=23>
