Save csv file as xls automatically (2003)

    Hi
I often read in a csv file, create a pivot table from the results, and then want to save the file as a .xls file. Unfortunately, the save button tries to re-save the file as a csv file, and I have to use Save As.

I would like to modify the File/Save functionality to recognise that csv files must automatically be saved as xls files. (If I wanted to re-save as a csv file, then I would have to use Save As). Could anyone please give me a pointer how to go about this.

    Thanks in anticipation.

I think that would require writing an application-level event handler, which is complicated and vulnerable.
You could, however, create a macro that opens the Save As dialog with .xls as default file type, and assign that to a toolbar button. Clicking the button would be a bit shorter than File | Save As...

    Thanks. I'll try that.
