Protecting Legacy options in a Form (Word 2007)

Wow! Usually I get a response here within minutes...Anyone curious on this one? It's not that it is life or death or anything...I can teach around this, I just don't like doing so, if I can find an answer...sure appreciate it if anyone takes the bait on this one! Plus, I like the old legacy "checkboxes"...I don't want to use a Yes/No field I'm partial to checkboxes...if I can possibly still protect a form with a legacy checkbox on it, then I'd like to continue doing so, and teaching it's use.

I am still trying to get used to Word 2007, and have a quick question. I have noticed that as long as I'm adding Word 2007's new "content control" from the developers menu (text boxes, combo boxes etc...) that I am able to protect the Form when I am ready to d so...however

If I use a legacy control like the "check box", all of a sudden the "Yes Start Enforcing Protection" button in the taskpane turns gray, and I am no longer allowed to protect the form.

Is this something new with Word 2007? If I choose to use a legacy button (I mean they still offer it on the developers menu)...I lose the ability to protect the form? Is this a bug? Is this intentional?

I fear that the number of Word 2007 users active here is still relatively small. Many large companies/organizations are holding off installing Office 2007 because the change is so large, and because there are still many problems with the new versions.

I've just created a form in Word 2007 and was able to use a legacy checkbox and newer items from the developer toolbar. It still locks and allows me to complete the form fields of either the old or the new.

There must be something else going on with your version of Word - but I have no idea on where you might look for the setting. Does the compatability mode have an effect? Does the file format cause a change? Have you turned on the Information Rights Management (I haven't)?

I have not turned on the information rights management. Seems like that is too extensive for what I am after...and not quite sure that is needed. (you haven't turned it on, and yours is working.)...The only thing I can do is try later in the classroom on a computer there. I am working on my office computer, and maybe it is just in the install.
What seems to cause the change to the "Start enforcing Protection button" is simply adding a legacy button into the document. It stays active until I choose a legacy button and place it in the document. I've tried placing all my fields in a table, and then again "not in a table" to see if that helped. I tried putting the legacy buttons into a different "section" of the document, and that didn't help.
If anyone runs into a clue...please holler...in the mean time will try it on another computer before I go completely nuts knowing yours works and mine doesn't. Tells me it is the install.
Will let you know once I get my room back...it's occupied at the moment.

I just ran into this in 2003. After some head scratching my problem was resolved by exiting Design Mode; in 2003, View | Toolbars | Control Toolbox, click the upper left icon if it shows that it Design Mode is active. Sorry, no idea what the 2007 menu equivalent is.

Hi NMP

Save the document, close the document and then reopen the document. Then go to Developer Tab and Protect document and save again, close and reopen to run as a test .
