    Text Box Problems (Word 2003)

    Hi,

Ive got a word document where there are some text boxes at the bottom of the page. Whenever I run the document the text boxes appear, however with some other users the text boxes do not appear. Im sure its a setting but not sure where to start to look, as a process of elimination. The text boxes are all enabled.

Does anyone have any suggestions/pointers please ??

    Cheers.

The first thing I'd look for is the Drawings check box in the View tab of Tools | Options... This check box should be ticked.

Oh wait - what kind of text boxes do you mean? Created by Insert | Text Box, or from the Control Toolbox, or from the Forms toolbar?

    Hi Hans,

The text boxes are from Insert | Text Box.

Re: Text Box Problems (Word 2003)

The problem of pages appearing differently on different computers has been much discussed. Perhaps different printer margins (different default printers) or different available fonts are changing the appearance of your document on other computers.

Maybe the other people are updating to a different template? This can cause problems. (And I forget where this option is.)

Along with Hans' suggestion, under the Print tab, make sure Draft Output is NOT checked.

Are these missing text boxes in a footer? How do you know they are missing...the other people can't see them? Or can't click on them to show the text box outline?

What's in the text boxes that can't be seen? Text? Graphics?

Can the other people see the text boxes in a different view, like page layout view or normal view?

If the other people are not editing the document (just viewing it) maybe the PDF format would be better.

    Two other things to try:

    1) Look for an updated driver for the video card in the problem PCs.

    2) Decrease hardware acceleration:
    - Open the Display Properties control panel (either by right-clicking an empty part of the desktop and selecting Properties from the popup menu, or through Start | Control Panel)
    - Activate the Settings tab,
    - Click Advanced.
    - Activate the Troubleshoot tab.
    - Drag the Hardware acceleration slider a notch or two to the left.
    - OK your way out.
    - If that doesn't help, repeat.
    - If it doesn't help at all, you can restore the original setting.

    Hi,

Many thanks for your response, Im going to go through the suggestions given by Hans and will post back my findings.

In the meantime though, we know the text boxes are missing as we physically cant see them on a user's computer but they appear on mine.....Its just a blank space where they should be.

The boxes are either blank or have a "X" in them.

Not sure about the different views, but will check that out.

Unfortunately, due to business requirements, PDF isnt an option.

Thanks again for your help, its very much apprecaited.

    Regards.
