help with ftp settings not working

I have set up some free web space , details:

    account url: http://two.xthost.info/testy123/
    FTP information:
    Host: two.xthost.info
    Username: testy123
    Password: 2Hrjnx

This account is a test account and so therefore you can use to test it.

But for some reason l cannot get ftp settings to work using ACEFTP.
It would be appreciated it someone could clarify as to what needs to go in Hostname and Host Address fields

I'm using CuteFTP, but I imagine the settings would be similar. Hostname should be any name which you want - eg. Test's Site, and the HostAddress would be two.xthost.info/testy123

I also don't have a problem with it, JJ. You will find that if you go to the site now, you'll see a picture I just uploaded there. I use FTP Pro and used the settings in the attachment without a bit of a problem. What's your problem?

As a side note, you might find it appealing to try some of the options in your FTP program for SSH or SSL transmissions or using different ports. Unless your hosting account supports those features for FTP, choosing those options can prevent you from connecting properly.

Filezilla is by far the easiest and most solid FTP program I have ever used and is the application of choice at my University

Re: help with ftp settings not working

I see that you and I both had a shot at uploading something to his appointed site, each with our different programs. This morning, just as a continuing test, I downloaded and installed a copy of that ACEFTP program that JJ had trouble with and he's not alone. I tried until my fingers turned blue and was not able to get something to upload with ACEFTP. It certainly accepted the ID, PW and host name and it looked like I was "in" at the site, but any attempt at upload would re-try three times and fail miserably.

The bottom line I think is that he will certainly have more luck with your program, which is free, as CuteFTP Pro which I use is NOT free. I hope JJ is still reading this thread!

Oh boy, that's a puzzler alright. I had the same window <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> so I know we were "on the same page" but I couldn't get anywhere with an upload. Oh well, I hope he takes your advice and goes with Filezilla.

Re: help with ftp settings not working

I am theorising that it is something to do with AV and firewall software. I know you have a strong FW and AV set up and I seem to remember JJ1972 used AVast at some time, maybe that is the answer. If I log onto work via thi slaptop and go via its proxy-server FTP is denied, from home and with a direct connection there is no problem.

I dunno, I just hope JJ will let us know what he decides to do. JJ, are you still reading?

As you can see, I tried again a short time ago and can make a connection, it just times out three times when I try to upload a file.

Re: help with ftp settings not working

    Hi,

I think it is down to the fact that l when l at work there is a proxy sever, yet when l try at home it is fine.

I am sure this is a problem, although l don't understand why a proxy server would be prevent me from doing this?
As other ftp settings from other programs l have used have been fine.
