    Ad Aware SE

Any ideas why I can no longer update the definitions for Ad Aware SE Spyware program? For years there were no problems doing this but now every time I try to get new definitions downloaded it gives an error. This has been happening for about 3 weeks now and it is happening on more than one machine.

Have a look at <post:=691,657>post 691,657</post:> and the response near the bottom from Argus which may shed some light on the matter

In other words, you'll have to upgrade to AdAware 2007 since SE is no longer supported.

    Re: Ad Aware 2007 Plus

A slight tangent to the original post......When I try to download the free version of Lavasoft AdAware, I'm being directed to try AdAware 2007 Plus.

"Get your free 12-month license of Ad-Aware 2007 Plus through our partnership with TrialPay. Try or buy products you already need from hundreds of name brand retailers and services and THEY will pay for your software."

Any comment on this? J. Till

Lavasoft has to make money to survive, so they will direct you towards chargeable products if they can. You need simply to be persistent in looking for the free product!

I'm reading more & more reports of AAW 2007 being slow and bloated. I've ditched SE now, relying on Spybot S&D, SuperAntiSpyware and SpywareBlaster.

I had no problem at all. I searched for Ad Aware 2007, went to the site, and downloaded it with no trouble at all.

A bit more on what hlewton said. I can't fault Lavasoft for their effort to get us to buy stuff, for when I go to Lavasoft.Com I see a three-button thing, one of which is for the free version. When I click the free button, I next see the attached, which sounds like what you were quoting from. But right there in prominence is the freebie. Seems OK to me.

    Re: Ad Aware 2007 Plus

I have run into a problem a bit different then we have discussed here so far. On one machine Ad Aware SE does not show up in the control panel to allow me to remove it. I went ahead and installed Ad Aware 2007 anyway. When I tried to update the definitions it would not do it; said to try the "web update" but that too would not update. I ran a Restore thinking I may have missed Ad Aware SE in the Add/Remove Programs in the control panel but I still don't see it. So now I am back to having Ad Aware SE installed.

Any ideas how to make the Ad Aware 2007 work properly?

Try the steps described in I Am Unable To Uninstall My Ad-aware Program on the Lavasoft Support Forums.

    Re: Ad Aware 2007 Plus

Thank you Hans. I will follow all the steps and hope. However one of the first things I did was look for it in the Programs folder and it wasn't there either. Again, thanks.

Do you mean that there is no LavaSoft folder in Program Files?

    Re: Ad Aware 2007 Plus

What I meant was there is no Ad Aware program listed under the Start Programs. Now I have found Lavasoft under the folder Program Files but the only folder in it is Ad Aware 2007 and none of the files listed like "unwise.exe" or "unregaaw.exe" are there. I can't download them from the WEB either. I guess the Restore I ran didn't do a complete restore since it now still shows Ad Aware 2007 installed under Program Files/Lavasoft. However the Ad Aware SE icon did come back and when I click on it Ad Aware SE does start up. I have searched for those two files and they don't seem to exist on my machine.

I can remove the the entire lavasoft folder but I'm sure that will do little good as far as the registry goes. Not sure what to search for in the registry. So I really don't know where to go from here.

You say that you have an AdAware SE shortcut (icon).
If you right-click it and select Properties, what is listed as the target of the shortcut?
