XP slow to respond to anything (XP sp2)

My computer is extremely slow at the moment. things like Firefox won't even load - I think I am lucky IE started up for me. I tried "fixing" Firefox which resulted in me getting explorer errors saying that drive C: (my main drive) is not formatted, would I like to format it now? And the computer is just generally really slow & unresponsive at times.

I've only tried restarting my computer which didn't help and I'm debating trying a system restore... I'm not so comfortable doing this but I think it may be necessary. Do I have any other options?

Have you checked the Processes tab of Task Manager to see if some process if eating up processor cycles and/or memory?

Have you performed full anti-virus and anti-spyware scans?

Sounds like some sort of virus or malware. I can't think of anything else that would attempt to get you to format your C drive.

You might also want to try a online scan with SpySweeper.

I just wanted to report back in that all of my scans hadn't found much but my computer seems to be back to normal... Maybe it's time to vacuum out the dust bunnies? I don't know. Thanks for the help everyone!

Glad to hear that things got sorted out. Even if we didn't find what the problem was. Thanks for posting back.
