    PerfectDisk Drive Settings?

    Hello,

Can anyone advise me what effect changing the modified age in days settings under Drive Properties has? Are particular settings preferred for different kinds of drives or drives used to sort particular kinds of data? Has anyone changed these settings from the defaults or noticed any changes by altering these settings?

    Thanks,

    Chris (Hunt)

PS Just about got used to the new colour scheme!

    Re: PerfectDisk Drive Settings?

    Chris -

See the screenshot below. During the defragmenting of the subject drive, PerfectDisk will [optionally] place often used files for quicker access. When a file is changed in any fashion, the modification date of that file is updated. As an example, if you open a Microsoft Word document and change the font, the "Date Modified" will update to the current date.

In Windows Explorer, you can set the view to Details to see the modified date for any file.

PerfectDisk assumes that files which are "Recently Modified" are used more often and files that are "Rarely Modified" are used less often. The program lets you define the difference between "Recently" and "Rarely". In the example shown below, any file that has a modified date which occurred within the previous 30 days would be considered Recently Modified and would be placed on the hard drive for quicker access.

I left mine set at the defaults so I cannot speak to the usefulness of the settings. It makes sense and seems like it should work as advertised... But I could never really tell the difference between 3 milliseconds and 300 milliseconds <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

    Re: PerfectDisk Drive Settings?

    Hi Ricky,

Thanks for the reply. I guess what I'm wondering is whether by lowering or increasing the dates for recently modified or rarely modified one can speed up the defragmentation time. I assume if Perfectdisk is not changing the position of many files then the defragmentation time will be quicker.

    All the best,

    Chris
