    Numbers displayed as formula (2003)

    Hi all,

I have imported some numbers from a system, into Excel, but when I type in the formula on a new added column e.g. = sum(D2*1), instead of displaying the result , the formula stays there instead of the result. Is there a setting on Excel that I have to click so it shows the results?

    Cheers

Make sure that the number format of the cells is not set to Text (in the Number tab of Format | Cells...).

I have done that, but still the same thing happened, but I had to delete the formula and then redo it again and it worked, weird.

    Thanks

If you change from Text to a different format, the item must be re-entered (clicking <F2> and then <enter> will do it) to change the format back. Selecing cells and changing the format will not work

After changing the format, you can make the formulas work in one go as follows:
    - Select the cells with formulas.
    - Press Alt+F11 to activate the Visual Basic Editor.
    - Press Ctrl+G to activate the Immediate window.
    - Type Selection.Formula = Selection.Formula and press Enter.
