    Comodo Firewall

The March 2008 issue of PC Magazine rates Comodo firewall ( http://www.comodo.com ) the best <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15> firewall, giving it 4.5/5.0 stars and making it an Editor's Choice.

    Re: Comodo Firewall

I use the Comodo Firewall on a couple of computers and rate it highly. I agree with the editor's choice.

    Re: Comodo Firewall

I'm trying to install Comodo Firewall Pro version 3.0 (freeware). I keep getting an error message that says "Comodo Firewall Installer has encountered a problem and needs to close". I choose the 32-bit installation file). What can be the problem?

    Re: Comodo Firewall

Have you remove your other third party firewall program(s)?
As it is not smart and sometimes impossible to run two or more at the same time.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Re: Comodo Firewall

I don't use it, Gloria, so I have no basis to check on, but a question or two if I may:

    1) Can you look in the Event Viewer logs to see if there's anything more substantive that we can go on to see what's happening to you?

    2) Do you by any chance already have another firewall running that might be complicating your attempted installation?

    Re: Comodo Firewall

I have no other firewall installed, neither on my hard drive nor in the registry. I'm using Windows firewall until I can get this problem resolved.

At their forum there is a statement, to TURN OFF the Windows Firewall before installing Comodo Firewall!

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Re: Comodo Firewall

No. 1 I did look in Event Viewers logs and saw Errors on 2 seperate dates, for the same error.

    Faulting Application: cfp_setup_3.0.20.320_XP_vista_x32.exe. Version: 0.0.0.0
    Fault Address: 0x02ce083d.

I did a registry search and did find a couple for Lavasoft Personal Firewall, which I removed.

Today I tried to install Comodo Firewall and the second error generated in Event Viewer, almost the same except the version changed in setup to: 3.0.20.320. Needless to say I received the same error messages and Comodo failed to install once again.

Fearing that the Windows Firewall I'm using as a substitute could be causing the problem, I turned it off and after the registry deletions I rebooted and tried the installation again. Alas, the same error message appeared.

I'm at the point now that I may choose another firewall and forget about Comodo.

    Re: Comodo Firewall

That's what I did when trying to install the firewall today and it didn't help.

I found on that same forum, a post on How to Completely remove Comodo Firewall, which I will use tomorrow. The instructions are very complicated, you would think that the makers of the Comodo would have made their uninstall feature more user friendly.

    Re: Comodo Firewall

I'm back to report that Comodo Firewall Pro has been installed. There support personnel sent me a link to download Comodo and it worked.
