    dvd player stopped working

HP Pavillion laptop. CD/DVD player worked fined. Took it home and the drive is no longer recognized in windows explorer. Rebooted several times, to no avail.
Should I flip the laptop over and remove and reinstall the drive?
    any other suggestions?
    Thanks

Well, if not fixed yet, I would certainly make sure all connections are tight and secure, and I would look in Device Manger for any errors.

    yep, it's fixed.

HP tech support got back to me (finally). Their solution: reset the BIOS, uninstall the player from the hardware listing in device manager and reboot.

It worked. Since the email was obviously a canned response, I'm not the first person to have this problem.

    Thanks for your response.

    Re: dvd player stopped working

Hmmm, well I think my next response would have been to uninstall the driver and reboot. Then if that did not work, do it again, but this time, reset the BIOS. No harm their way, except for the loss of any custom settings you might have had - a minor inconvenience that may have been unnecessary.

At any rate, I am glad you got it going and thanks for the followup.
