Disappearing card trick (Win XP SP2)

    Hi All,
I've got a usb stick and an SD Card. Whenever I remove them I use the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature. The hangup is, that when I re-insert them, the usb stick is recognized but the SD Card is not. It seems as if the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature, safely removes the port as well. What can I do, short of re-booting (which does reset things so I can use the SD Card again), that will cause the SD Card to be noticed?
    Thanks.

In Windows Explorer right click and select EJECT.

    Hi Joe,
    Thank you.
That's how I should remove it, yes? Is there any way to get it back (like now) after I have already used the "Safely Remove Hardware" feature?

That's what I've been doing and that's such a hassle most times.
    Thanks Joe.

After you re-boot and the devices re-appear if you use "Eject" they should be OK and you should be able to insert & eject as needed.
