    Read Only (MS Office97 SR2)

    Hi:
I wanted to delete all records from a ACCESS table that had certain values for a field. So, I created a separate table that had all such records and then joined it to the original table using a select query. When the query ran, I attempted to block out the resulting table, so I could delete the records from the original table (I don't know if this is the accepted way to do this but it has always worked in the past). It would not work this time and I got the message that the table was now "read only". I have performed other queries on this table without receiving this message. If someone can tell me why, I would be most appreciative.
    Thanks

It's most probably a problem with the SQL of the query. Post that so someone can tell you how to fix it.

Why not just use a delete query?

[help] Re: Read Only (MS Office97 SR2)

OK, now I know how to run a Delete query but I am still having problems with 'Read Only'. I worked on this database at home and used WINZIP to compress the file so I could bring it to work on a 3.5 floppy. I used WINZIP at the office to unzip the file and then opened it. Everything OK up to this point. Now, I try to save/export one of the tables to an EXCEL file and I get the message:
"Can't Update: Database or object is read-only".
I click on "HELP" and the only thing that sounds promising is "Close the database, resolve the read-only condition and ...". But, when I open the database I do not get any "read-only" message.
I tried copying it to another file and the same message comes up when I try to "save/export ".
    I have a meeting coming up in 15 minutes and now I can not show them some charts in EXCEL because I can not create the EXCEL file. <img src=/S/help.gif border=0 alt=help width=23 height=15> <img src=/S/help.gif border=0 alt=help width=23 height=15>

Try saving the table to a comma-delimited text file. Then import that into Excel.
