can't remove 'Read Only' property from directory (Vista Home Premium)

    Hi,
It's me again with my "Problem of the Week" :
I'm trying to change some mp3 tags but can't for certain directories. I found that they have the 'Read Only' property set on them - the individual files are OK though.
I found that the parent directories have the Read Only set as well and I have gone right to the root of the drive to try to change the permissions - with no luck. Even though I have Admin rights, when I go through the process to uncheck the box in the 'Properties' window, the 'Read Only' box is still set. Any thoughts on how to fix the problem ?
I am able to change tags on some directories - but they all come from the same source. The drive itself is an IOMAGIC 250 GB portable USB model , but dircetories on the internal drives show the same problem.
    Thanks in advance,
    Don

Most all folder are Read only, but the files within are NOT. But the folders within are again read only.

It has been this way for some time. Even on this machine a XP they are that way <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Thanks DaveA.
Ok then - so that's not the problem !!!
Any idea why i get a 'File Access Problem' when I try to modify the mp3 tag in a few directories. Even though I am the file owner and the files are not Read Only I can't change the tags. I'm starting to get really ticked with Vista. I used the same portable drive with my XP laptop and nothing like this ever happened !
    GRRRRRR.

A tag is just a part of the mp3 file containing information about the music - artist, song title etc. So whatever properties are attached to the file should also be part of the tag.
But for some reason, with the file properties non - Read Only, I cannot change the contents of the tag. I've tried doing it within WinAmp 5.5.2 and with an external tag editor.

Are you sure you are the Owner? What permissions are there for your user if you look at the security tab under a file's properties?

Yes I am the owner. I have admin rights. The properties say that I do anything to the file ... but that's wrong.
