    accdb size (2007)

I have a database started from 2003 and converted to access 2007, into an accdb extension.
I have add vb code and now my accdb is 90 mb big.
    Even when I compressed it.
Can someone tell me why it became so big in accdb format?

    Re: accdb size (2007)

Database objects in an .accdb file have more properties than those in an .mdb file, and apparently this causes the file size to balloon more quickly.
It often helps to create a blank new database and to import all database objects into the new one. Some of the 'garbage' that a database collects over time is left behind in the old database, and the new one will be smaller.

I'm afraid you'll have to live with it, or go back to Access 2000 .mdb format.

As far as I know, you can convert an .accdb database to .mdb (you'll be creating a new file), but if you used features that are specific to the new Access 2007 database format, they will be lost in the conversion.

    Re: accdb size (2007)

Access 2007 does allow you to use Save As to convert back to 2000 format, but only if you have not used any of the new features of the 2007 format.

If you have used things such as Rich Text memos, or Attachment data types you get the message " You cannot save this database in an earlier version format, because it uses features that require the current format."

If you don't really need such features you can track them all down and remove them, then you will be able to convert. But finding them all can be difficult.

    John
