    Writing queries (2003)

Every time I want to write a query I have to close the tables box and select the SQL functionality. Can I set access to auto present me with the SQL query writing tablet when I select write a new query?

No, Access will always present the Add Tables window and start in design view.
You could create a dummy query, switch to SQL view and save it. Thereafter, use it as a template: either copy/paste it in the database window, then open the copy, or open it and use Save As to save it under another name. If you save a query while in SQL view, it'll open in that view next time.
