    Printer settings (VB5?)

    Good afternoon

I am afraid I may sound very vague because I am not a programmer and most VB is above me but maybe somebody could point me in the right direction for this

Our Company has a bespoke software package designed and mainted over 17 years by a very grumpy programmer, when we print our Airway Bills (AWB) which are A5 on our Epson dot matrix printers it skips every other one to start on a new page (as an A4 page would) if a single copy is required, if multiple copies are required it contineously prints OK, as a result we have to more or less throw out 50% of our pre printed AWB stock which apart from costly is a stupid waste.

I have asked the guy if there is not an instruction that can be sent to the Epson printer to tell it that the sheet it is printing is A5 and not A4, he insists that there is not, I am sure though that as our 'AWB' is pretty much an industry sized document it must be possible, I am sure that I have worked places where the printer automatically feeds itself back halfway if only one AWB was required.

Does anybody have experience with different size dot matrix printing / epson printers / any solutions?

    Any suggestions appreciated

    Cheers

    Steve

Asking the questions everbody wants the answers too but feels too stupid to ask themselves :-)

The epson dot matrix printers are generally controlled using ESC/P and then later the ESC/P2 printer language. You can use to this control all aspects of the printers operation. It is possible to define the page to a specific size, move forward by a certain distance, change fonts, etc.
The following link will give you a lot more information about it. http://www.epson.co.uk/support/manua...SCP/Part_1.pdf
I used to use this a lot a number of years ago (don't think I've done anything with a dot matrix for 5 years or so), but the programming language hasn't changed much in that time.

Your problem may be getting the grumpy programmer to bother to add it to your code for you!!

It is very simple to include in code as the printer "intercepts" the control language and carries out the instructions it receives.

Let me know how it goes
