This file does not have a program associated ... (WinXP SP2)

Over the past week I've been plagued by a recurrence of this message when double-clicking on a ZIP file (created, as are all my zip files, by PKZIP 2.5)
    Didn't use to happen.
I discovered that using RegEdit to delete the key [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.zip] fixes the problem.
    Bonus: No need to reboot.
probably works with other extensions .....

Can PKZIP set the file association? I'd be concerned that something is messing with file associations? Have you started using any new software recently?

This can happen when one installs a NEW program that HiJacking that extension, and then the program is uninstalled, leaving the extension without a linked program.

So, have you tried out any NEW compression programs and then tossed them?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Dave and Joe, no new zipping software that I'm aware of.
I always use PKZIP 2.5 to zip files, because I have a nifty batch file that runs it.
If anything has messed with the associations/registry, it'd have to be something that I've downloaded and tried, although i no longer keep meticulous records of each software that I try.

If you like to have a record of the programs you try Total Uninstall will keep the record while monitoring the installation to assure a complete removal of all the little bits & pieces that programs seem to drop on your system during the install process.
