    Safe Mode Start (Home Premium)

Can the safe mode startup be built into the boot.ini "without disrupting anything" like that below which can be used in XP?

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS="Micros oft Windows XP Professional Safe Mode" /fastdetect /safeboot:minimal /sos /bootlog

    Regards,

The boot.ini file is gone in Vista. It's been replaced by the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) file. The only way to edit it is via the command line "bcdedit.exe" OR with VistaBootPRO . Wouldn't pressing F8 at startup be a little simpler and less prone to disaster than editing the BCD file?

    John:

Yes, maybe... I've just had "safe boot" in my boot.ini for so long, I'm used to it.

Is the "safe boot" even aavailable in the BCD file? I didn't even see it in BCDedit.

    Regards,
    Chuck

    I don't know Chuck. And I'm not about to start mucking around with something that isn't broken <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15> . F8 works for me!

Boot Configuration Data Editor Frequently Asked Questions recommends using Msconfig.exe for safemode and a few other options.
