Memo fld truncated when transferred to Excel (2003)

I am manipulating an excel spreadsheet under program control from within Access.
One of the fields I'm "stuffing" into an Excel cell is a memo field containing 390 characters.
Excel ends up with the first 255 chr. of the field followed by about 8 - 10 strange characters - appears to be some Asian font.

If I copy/paste the data directly from the Access table into Excel, it all copies correctly.

In my code, I am using the statement: range.value = rs!fieldname

Anybody have any ideas how I can get around this?

    Thanks,
    Lance

It *is* possible to insert memo fields into cells in Excel without losing data. Is the recordset based on a query that manipulates the memo field in any way? Even setting the Format property of a memo field can truncate it.

Yes, the recordset is the result of a query.
However, the resulting field for the record in question ends up being 300+ characters in length.
It's only once the data gets placed in the excel cell that it gets weird after the first 255 chr.

    I'm at a loss.

We'd have to know the details of the situation. I wrote some test code to populate cells in an Excel sheet with values from a recordset that includes a memo field with more than 255 characters, and it worked perfectly.
