It's still there but it looks different than in previous versions.

    Hans:

But not all programs/programmers have adjusted evidently.

I (used to) use a program called "XFilesDialog" ( XDeskSoftware ) but now it gives me an error that the address bar has to be turned on.

They maybe gave us the functionality, but it ain't quite the same animal evidently.

    Regards,

Have you tried XFilesDialog 3.50 beta ("Now with improved Vista support")? See the XFilesDialog - downloads page.

"Our programs work on Win95, Win98, Win98SE, WinME, NT4, Win2000 and WinXP but we recommend Windows 2000 SP2, 64 MB RAM and a video card with at least 800x600 in 256 colors or more. "

Which means that this program is NOT Vista READY, you need to wait until it is updated.

What other OLDER programs have you installed?
These may be the root of your so called Vista problems!

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Dave:

I don't think that this is the issue I *was* having. It's installed and running now, just not all the functions. And Aero is still OK.

I think the Aero issue is tied to my "final" comment in <post#=699,862>post 699,862</post#> .

But as you suggest, I've been trying to double-check everything as I load it.

It think Dave's point is that unless a program specifically says it is Vista compatible it may run but you have no idea of how well, what features may not work or what else it may affect.

And if everyone listened to that literally Joe, I'm quite sure a hunk of business sales would fall away.

Again, Dave is certainly correct in that it gets into areas that we don't have any concrete info on.

    I just need to:

    Make more backups, and
Try to test things one at a time, or so.

If you don't listen to it literally then you are opening yourself up to all sorts of problems. Vista is enought different that many applications needed to be updated to work properly with it. Some vendors have decided to not update old version but make you buy a new version. Others may not even be around any more. As always, it is your decision. But if you play with fire long enough you are surely going to get burned.
