Cleaning Up Address Book Imports (Home Premium)

I imported my address book (WAB) from XP into Windows Mail.

Apparently, many of the names in the WAB file have "nicknames" attached; so when it imports, if there is a nickname, Windows Mail uses it to file under instead of the full name.

So, I have to go through all the names and delete the nickname, and then the name appears and files properly.

Is there any way to do this en masse?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

Chuck, I suggest that you delete all your contaminated addresses. Then export your address data from your XP-based system as a *.csv file, taking care with selection of required fields. Importing to Windows Mail should then give you no anomalies. Good luck.

    John:

    Yea, you're probably right...

Also, the groups imported on in name, not in the actual members.

Is this as it should be as well?

    Chuck

    Chuck,

When exporting contacts from Outlook Express as a text file (*.csv) any groups are missed. Therefore groups would need to be recreated and any group members not in the contacts folder would need complete re-entry of details in Windows Mail. IMHO this appears to be the only snag. But there could be more!
