    Posting Graphics

    Caution Loungers
I have just discovered that attaching a graphic to a post then subsequently posting another graphic with the same name to a new post in the same thread can overwrite the graphic presented in the original post. As an example see the thread which starts <!post=here,700461>here<!/post>

There is something to be said for originality.
    Regards
    Don

Did you have both posts open in different tabs or different instances of your browser? That can confuse the Lounge.

    Re: Posting Graphics

I shouldn't be butting in here for I don't have the same "visibility" that you Admins have, but I would think that, since The Lounge stores our attachments in http://www.wopr.com/w3tfiles/ by the name of the uploaded file when posted, that a different post, given the same upload file spec by the poster, WOULD overwrite the one from the other post, no?

    Re: Posting Graphics

No, the name of an attachment is always modified: it is prefixed with a number whose significance I don't know, a dash "-", the post number and another dash "-". So clock_icon.gif becomes (for example) 6-701560-clock_icon.gif. This ensures that attachments have a unique name.
I'd be in big trouble otherwise - my screen grabber is set to save a screenshot with a fixed filename, so 90% of the screenshots I post have the same filename on my PC. Fortunately screenshots in my other posts aren't overwritten!

Ahhh, I see, said the "blind man." Thanks for the enlightenment.

I always assumed the first number was a forum index of some sort. (Access seems to be 4, Excel 5)
