    Send Object Not Available (2002)

I created a db in Access 2003 for a friend's computer who is running Access 2002. Everything works except a command for emailing a report. When she attempts to run it she gets a message that the "Send Object isn't available." How do I get the send object into Access 2002?

Does this user use Outlook as default e-mail program? SendObject requires a MAPI-compliant mail client, it doesn't work with Pegasus Mail for instance.

I believe she's using Outlook Express. When I test it on my computer (which uses Outlook) it works just fine.

Outlook Express should be OK - it is a MAPI-compliant e-mail program.

What happens if the user does the following:

    - Start Access.
    - Create a blank new database.
    - Press Alt+F11 to activate the Visual Basic Editor.
    - Press Ctrl+G to activate the Immediate window.
    - Type DoCmd.SendObject
    - Press Enter.

Does this open a blank e-mail, or is the same error message displayed?

    Hi Hans,

Thanks, I'll try it out the next time I'm there which will probably be Thursday.

Send Object requires that there be a default mail program specified. Just because she use Outlook Express does not guarantee that it is specified as the default.

Look in Internet Options (Control Panel) , Programs Tab to see if anything is listed for Mail.

Re: Send Object Not Available (2002)

I tried your suggestion with a new blank data base. Still get the message: "Run Time Error 2046. The command or action 'Send Object' isn't available now." Her default Email program is Outlook Express.

I wonder if I need to install some add-in to get this to work?

Re: Send Object Not Available (2002)

Send Object should be available without having to install anything extra if Access has been installed and if Outlook or Outlook Express has been set as the default e-mail program in the Programs tab of Tools | Internet Options in Internet Explorer.

You could try Help | Detect and Repair... from within Access on her PC.

You may want to use http://www.LogMeIn.com (Free) to visit your lady from the convience of your desktop!

Once you have LogMeIn established on both computers, if your lady is turned on, a simple click on your desktop will take you to your ladies desktop and you can do your thing.

You can also use http://www.MailBigFile.com (Free) to copy large *.mdb’s from your desktop to cyber space and retrieve them from www.MailBigFile.com when your on your ladies desktop.

    HTH, John

PS: This is how I remotely support my lady and most of my clients.

Re: Send Object Not Available (2002)

Thanks for the suggestion. Not anticipating difficult problems I didn't set her computer up for remote access. I typically use TightVNC for that purpose. I assume it works just like LogMein, and it's a wonderful tool expecially these days when gas prices are sky high.
