    Tabs not working? (I.E. 7 Pro v2.1)

I noticed recently that when I open a web page from my Favorites, "Start/Favorites" and then go to the favorites center drop down and click on a new page, it overrides the current page and does not open in a new tab.
When I click on the IE icon in the quick launch bar and start Ie from there however all is well. Has anyone else noticed this? I have checked and re checked my settings and all appear to be correct. I have also noticed that when I click a link from the links tab it does the same thing, over rides the current browser page.
    OS: Win XPP - Sp2
    IE 7 Pro v2.1
    Thanks John

Does this persist after rebooting your PC? I very occasionally see similar behavior, usually after having been working in a large number of tabs for a long time, but a restart of IE7 or if necessary of the PC always cures it.

yes it is consistent. I had IE open with my usual start up tabs just now and clicked on the WOPR link from the links bar and it over rode MSNBC.com

What happens if you run IE with no addons?

By that do you mean run IE 7 and not IE 7 Pro?
    Thanks John

    What happens if you

    a) Toggle the settings that control how tabs work twice (i.e. if a setting is on, turn it off, click OK, then turn it on, click OK, and the other way round if the setting is on). This helps sometimes to "remind" Windows of the settings.
Disable IE7 Pro temporarily: Tools | Internet Options..., Programs tab, Manage Add-Ons button.
    c) Start IE7 without any add-ons: Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).
    d) (Last resort only) Reset IE7 settings:
    - Select Tools | Internet Options...
    - Activate the Advanced tab.
    - Click Reset.
    - In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.
    - Click Close, and then click OK twice.
    - Close and restart IE7.

I tried disabling IE 7 Pro,and it made no difference. I will play with the rest of the suggestions over the weekend to see what I find and will report back.

What happens if you middle-click links?

I'm not sure what exactly you mean by middle click?
    Thanks John

Sorry - by middle-click I mean use the wheel button to click if you have one on your mouse.

(Actually, I've just checked on IE here and it doesn't work when selecting a link in 'Favorites' but does open a new tab from hyperlinks.)

Middle-clicking on a link in the list of Favorites does open the link in a new tab for me in IE7.
Moreover, when you hover over a link, a blue arrow appears to the right. Clicking this arrow will also open the link in a new tab. See screenshot below.

Ok middle clicking does work and I guess I can live with that when I open IE from the start menu, and I can live with using the blue arrow when I am not using a mouse.
    Thanks John
