    One Million Files (WinXP SP2)

    My Dell Dimension 8400 was bought February 2005 and I don't consider that I have too, too much on the system. (I may be wrong, though.) And I keep it pretty well cleaned up. My Norton virus scan, however, reports that it has scanned over one million files! Seems a bit much to me. Is that normal? Is there a way I can find out where and what all these files are?

    I think Norton counts every "item" scanned as a separate file, including registry entries. It reports scanning over 500,000 "files" on my PC, but Windows Explorer or a program such as TreeSize Free from JAM Software report only about 70,000 files. You can use the latter to find out which folders contain the largest number of files.

    I think it probably also counts the individual files contained within ZIPped and CAB files, to make the number look more impressive!
