Wrong local area code (2007 SP 1?)

I live in San Francisco, which has an area code of 415. In Outlook (and this was true of previous versions) if I type a local number in contacts and don't add the area code (for example, if I type, "566 1322", Outlook adds the following area code, 702: so that the contact shows "702-566-1322". I then have to correct this manually by typing: "415 566 1322". Where is this mistake stored, and how can i correct it.

You can view and set your area code in the Phone and Modem Options control panel. Outlook uses this area code.

Thank you Hans I had looked in Vista, but not found the Phone and Modem Options in the Control Panel. Now all's well.
