Nuisance reminder (SP2)

I've reconfigured an old computer for my granddaughter to use. I've reinstalled WinXP, downloaded SP2 and all the updates. It's running very nicely, but the desktop displays a BIG vertical reminder: "To access web sites or e-mail, you must have an Internet service provider. To setup Internet access, open: ." There's nothing to click on, and no visible way to kill this thing. Obviously I have an ISP—I'm using it right now. Any ideas how to get rid of this thing?

BTW: This is an HP Pavilion 310n. Bought it in 2002.

Check the Desktop properties - have you by chance set it up to display a web page?

Omigosh! That's hard to believe, though I've been using (even heavily relying on) the Lounge for years.

This message thread serves as a perfect example of why many people use the Lounge. I also wrote to HP asking the same question, but I expected (1) that I'd hear first from a lounger and (2) that the Lounge would offer the better advice. Right on both counts. The Lounge reply arrived first (not counting HP's automated response), and the advice was accurate and simple. HP's response went into a convoluted series of steps that involved msconfig. That's been my experience all along. You and Leif and all the other great people in the Lounge make this the hands-down first choice.

My thanks to all of you!
