Is Anyone Using Project 2007 (2007)

    Hi,

I've googling Project 2007 and not finding much in the various groups. This leads to wonder if many people are using it yet.

    Any Loungers using Project 2007?

    TIA.

    Jimmy Lee

Microsoft Project is mostly used in large companies/organizations.
As far as I can tell, Office 2007 isn't being used widely there yet, because of the investment needed in training people to get used to the radically new interface, and the incompatibilities with older versions of Office. So I'm not surprised that Project 2007 has only a small user base. But no doubt this will gradually change over the coming years.

    Hi Jimmy,

I have it available at work and they are offering it to users. I have elected to stay with 2003 for all the reasons Hans listed and recommend for users at work to stay with 2003 until there are more organizations using it. We are considering as an organization going to Office 2007 but again Hans listed all the reasons to wait until it is in use my more orgainzations.

2007 is being used, even Project Server. I did the pilot implementation of Project 2007 with Project Server 2007 for a previous employer. This followed hot on the heels of an abandoned exercise to do the same with the 2003 versions of Project and Server (2003 proved ineffective and problematic in the server environment). They are now rolling out 2007 in production (2 steps forward - 1 back, & vice versa, along with the obligatory sharepoint baggage).

2007, especially on the Project Server side, is more robust than 2003 but still lacks the functionality and reliability of products like Primavera that are designed for a multi-user multi-project environment.

Persist with your Googling, the 2007 information is out there, if you dig hard enough (and skip the MS promos). A few sites I've found helpful (no particular order):

Discussions in Microsoft Project General Questions
    Microsoft Office Project 2007
    Microsoft Project MVP Home Page
    Project 2007 Solution Center
    projectified
    Project Search

and check out the (non-ad) links at these sites as well.
