    OE6 Can't edit text (OE6 IE7)

I have outlook express/IE7. Suddenly, when I want to edit the font while in the body of the message, I cannot change the font style, font size or font color. The Bold, Italic, and Underline options do work. I'm not talking about permanent font as on the "Compose" tab in Tools. Just when I want to emphasize something in an individual message. Thanks for your help! laf

Are you in plain text or the Rich text format?
If plain text then NO, you can NOT do what you are trying to do!

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

    Try the following:

    Close Outlook Express.
    Start Internet Explorer.
    Select Tools | Internet Options...
Click the Accessibility button in the General tab.
Make sure that the check boxes "Ignore colors specified on Web pages", "Ignore font styles specified on Web pages" and "Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages" are clear.
(If they are clear already, tick these check boxes, click OK, then click Accessibility again, clear the check boxes and click OK.)
    Close the Internet Options dialog.
Start Outlook Express to see if the problem has been solved.

Dave and Hans, Hello and thank-you, however I have already tried both of your suggestions. I have tried everything I can find in the "XP for Dummies" book. I'm stumped!

Just grasping at straws here: can you edit font size etc. when you select Message | New message using | No stationery?

    Re: OE6 Can't edit text (OE6 IE7)

Hans, I cannot do that either but it acted like it wanted to! Background: I set my font in tools, options, compose as Arial Narrow 10 pt. in Blue. When I select new message, the font type says Arial 12pt. in Black. If I select new message without stationary, I get the Arial Narrow 10 pt. but in black.
    Thanks again for your help!

Can you create stationery that works the way you want?

I cannot get it to change by selecting stationary either! I guess it's possible that I did something or deleted something that I shouldn't have at some point recently. I was messing around with cookies and temp files. Any thoughts? Thanks again!!!

All searches I do on this problem come back to the accessibility settings as the most probable cause of this problem. Since we have already ruled this out, I fear that I'm out of ideas. I hope that someone else will come up with a suggestion.

You MUST set the default to be HTML or when opening a new email change the format to be HTML.

If the default is Plain Text, then the new mail will be BLACK, as NO color is allowed in plain text.

Give us a screen shot of your Tools, Options, "Compose" pane, showing the settings that you have selected. Make sure that you are making the change in the "Email' and not the "News" area.

    Re: OE6 Can't edit text (OE6 IE7)

Dave, the first post in this thread mentions that Bold, Italic and Underline do work. That wouldn't be possible if the mail format is plain text - there are no formatting options at all in plain text.
