    Microsoft Silverlight

I recently downloaded Live Messenger/Hotmail to hopefully make use of my inbuilt webcam. MS is now offering me 'Silverlight' via their Update service (Vista HP). I have tried to read a bit about it but am still confused ... why do techos use so much tech language!
Question please for one of Woody's experts:
    - Should I downloaded it? What will it really do for me?
    - Will it allow me to delete any other programmes eg Quicktime, RealPlayer (that I seem to need because WMP will not 'play' all the audio/video that I like ... BBC, some Australian video/radio etc)
    Thanks in advance
    Ron

    Re: Microsoft Silverlight

Silverlight is Microsoft's answer to Adobe Flash, but up to now it doesn't do much. It is not a media player, so it won't replace QuickTime or RealPlayer.

There's a new beta version that looks, er, flashier - see <post:=699,298>post 699,298</post:>.

    Re: Microsoft Silverlight

Well Hans I did download Silverlight but Adobe Flash seems to be the only one 'selected' when I go to 'flash' pages. How do I change this to 'MS Silverlight?

    Regards
    Ron

    Re: Microsoft Silverlight

You don't. Silverlight is not a Flash player. Flash pages will still require Adobe Flash. If and when Silverlight becomes more popular, web pages will appear that use Silverlight instead of Flash. For the moment, it's pretty much limited to some pages on the Microsoft website.
