    Word drop down fields not display (Windows 2000, 5.0, SP1; Word 2000 9.0.3821 SR1; Outlook 2000, SR1)

In Word, used a protected form template to create a document with drop down fields/check boxes. Clicked the email button to send to self to test. When word document is received in Outlook, the text fields display, but the drop down fields and check boxes do not display. Any suggestions? Thanks.

When you sent the mail, did you use File > Send To > Mail Recipient, or > Mail Recipient (as Attachment)? The regular Mail Recipient option sends the document as an Outlook message, converting the document to HTML format - which might explain the lost drop down fields and check boxes. Use Mail Recipient (as Attachment) to have the Word document attached to an Outlook message as an icon, which the recipient double-clicks to launch the document. Presuming that the recipient has access to the drive on which the form template is located, the form should work.

Thank you. Yes, I am using File/Send to Mail Recipient in an effort to save staff members from doing a lot of extra clicks to get the results and why I shied away from the attachment option. Makes sense, but is there a way around it?

You are only saving them two clicks (actually, one double-click) from launching the attachment. What you're saving them in time, you're costing them in functionality, as the form is no longer usable in that condition.

Alternatives? You could actually design the form as an HTML document, which would make the transition easier. You also might be able to do something using forms in Outlook itself.

Thank you. This was an alternate to trying to publish the form in Outlook, which is another problem altogether with permissions. Maybe I'll look into your html suggestion. <img src=/S/cool.gif border=0 alt=cool width=15 height=15>

You wouldn't have to publish the form to everyone, J, just your PC. Create a folder for it, right-click and tell it to use form myform.oft. You should be able to click on the folder and hit new, fill in the email addie and send it, no? Hmmm. I haven't tried it yet.
