Pick the Correct Quartile (Excel 2003)

    Hi Excel Experts,

I have a table which has the Levels L1, L2, L3, L4. Each of this Level has four quartiles Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 these quartiles has the Min and Max salary ranges.

I have a master data with the details of all employee with their levels and their salaries, i need a formula in the master file to check on the Level and the Salary and display the right QUARTILE.

I am attaching an excel with the table and the Sample employee data. I need the formula in E10 to pick the right quartile from the table A1:I5.

Looking forward to a great formula for this.

    Regards
    Baiju

See the attached version. I modified your salary range table slightly to make the formula work. The formula uses a combination of index, match and offset:

    =INDEX($B$1:$E$1,MATCH(D10,OFFSET($B$1:$E$1,MATCH( C10,$A$2:$A$5,0),0)))
