    Language Settings (Word 2003)

In Word, we have our Default Language set for English U.S. When spell checking certain documents, the language will change to something other than English U.S. - does this occur because the custom.dic is corrupt? It's doesn't happen to all documents, just certain ones. Any info would be appreciated! Thanks from sunny Pittsburgh, PA

    Re: Language Settings (Word 2003)

As you can see in your screenshot, the check box "Detect language automatically" is ticked. This means that if a sentence contains words from another language (or that could be interpreted as being from another language), Word will automatically change the spell check language.
And of course, another language could have been set explicitly in some documents.
