SUMIF DATE QUESTION (XP & 2003)

I am using a one variable sumif formula ( =SUM(IF($A$1:$A$514=$A529,J$1:J$514,0)) . I would like to change the variable to a date. all i keep getting is a - even though i have amounts in cells in column J relating to the corresponding date in column A. Is this possible or am i barking up the wrong formula tree.

    thanks,

Have you confirmed the formula by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Enter to make it an array formula?

Try this as an array formula - note the extra $ sign:

    =SUM(IF($A$1:$A$514=$A$529,J$1:J$514,0))

    or as a "normal" formula

    =SUMIF($A$1:$A$514,$A$529,J$1:J$514)
