    Outline numbering styles (2007)

I have a stylesheet set up for outline numbering: Heading 1 has no number, Heading 2 starts with A), Heading 3 starts with 1), and so on. In 2003, there was a feature to "Re-start numbering after higher level" which is missing in Word 2007. If I have a list of Heading 3 items, for example, I want them to be numbered from 1) onward after each Heading 2 appears. But in Word 2007, the numbering doesn't re-start--in other words, if I have 5 H3 items, then insert an H2, the next H3 item is listed as 6), not 1). Has this ability just gone by the wayside in 2007?

When in the Define new multilevel list dialog, click More. You'll find the settings you are looking for--midway down the right column.

And no, I don't understand why Word makes you choose "define new" when all you want to do is modify the one you already have.

Thanks! Wow, they really hid that setting really well. Your direction was just what I needed!
