Deleting Fonts (XP/SP2)

I recently added a few fonts to my folder and now the computer is acting a bit unpredictable.

This jogged my memory about a warning a while back about downloading too many fonts making the system unstable.

Is this still true? Will dumping the fonts I am unlikely to use improve things? If so, how do I do this? (Apparently, it's never occurred to anyone at the MS Knowledgebase that one might want to remove fonts. There is exactly no information there.)

Windows XP and Office XP handle large numbers of fonts better than older versions.

You can simply delete files from the C:WindowsFonts folder, but take care not to remove fonts such as Times New Roman etc.

If you copied fonts files (as .ttf) into your WindowsFonts folder, fonts may fail to register properly.

To avoid such problem, open Fonts folder from Control Panel or Windows Explorer and from File menu select "Install new font" instead of copy-paste fonts files.

Since I go to the lounge for definitive knowledge, I hope you won't a quick off-topic question.

Can you direct me to an Adobe Acrobat knowledge source? I've tried Adobe and all I get is gibberish.

I'm trying to get Acrobat to open to a different default directory upon start-up.

Right-click the shortcut you use to start Adobe Actobat.
Select Properties from the popup menu.
Specify the folder you want in the Start In: box.
Click OK.
