    No Page Numbers on Forst and Last Pages (2003)

    I know this has been asked before, but I searched and didn't find it, so here goes: document is 10 pages long. I don't want the page numbers to appear on either the first or last pages, but I want to start numbering on page 2 with 2.
    Thoughts?

    Select File | Page Setup...
    Activate the Layout tab.
    Tick the "Different first page" check box.
    Select View | Headers and Footers.
    Make sure that the first page header (or footer) doesn't contain the page number, and the standard header (or footer) does.
    This will take care of all but the last page.

    There are two ways to suppress the page number on the last page:

    1) Insert a Next Page section break at the end of the next to last page.
    The last page will now be the first (and only) page of the second section, and like the first page of the first section, it will not have a page number.

    - or -

    2) Remove the page number from the second page header (or footer), and do the following:
    - Press Ctrl+F9
    - Type if followed by a space
    - Press Ctrl+F9
    - Type page
    - Click after the first }
    - Type =
    - Press Ctrl+F9
    - Type numpages
    - Click after the following }
    - Type a space, followed by "", another space and "
    - Press Ctrl+F9
    - Type page
    - Click after the following }
    - Type "
    - You should see
    <code>
    { if { page }={ numpages } "" "{ page }" }
    </code>
    - Press F9 to update and hide the field code.

    Here's another way, using field coding alone:
    {IF{PAGE}=1 "" {IF{PAGE}={NUMPAGES} "" {PAGE}}}

    Hi Chris,

    This coding for the graphic is just a bit simpler:
    {IF{PAGE}={NUMPAGES} {INCLUDEPICTURE "SourceFiles/ESBE_LOGO.jpg" d}}
    You really don't need the mergeformat switch for a graphic.

    Hi Chris,
    <hr>I plan on having a standard graphic on each footer excepting a signature graphic on the last page.<hr>
    In that case, something along the lines of:
    {IF{PAGE}={NUMPAGES} {INCLUDEPICTURE "SourceFiles/Signature.jpg" d} {INCLUDEPICTURE "SourceFiles/Logo.jpg" d}}
    Cheers,

    Thanks, more than muchly!
    Another question:
    How do you guys know just before my client is going to ask me to include a graphic signature on only the last page of a document? (grin!)

    Right.
    I was partway through the complete assembly.
    I plan on having a standard graphic on each footer excepting a signature graphic on the last page.

    Thanks again.
    I keep forgetting that
    (a) I don't really appreciate what that switch does and
    ( most of the time it's probably useless which
    © probably accounts for (a)!

    It'll all be done in VBA anyway, so I'll never see it .....
