    image quality

I have a problem with image quality on my website. When I look at the images in Irfanview, they are fine. When I copy them from the website and paste them, they are fine. But on the website, itself, they look distorted and fuzzy. Any idea why? The website is my client page and the images i am talking about are client logos.

Because they are not displayed at the original size. For example, the Air Force logo is 180 x 180 pixels but it is displayed at 50 x 50. The algorithm that renders the picture is not perfect at resizing, especially if the ratio between original and displayed size is not a whole number. You should try to find logos at the size you want to display. Or experiment with resizing them in IrfanView.

One thing (I think) that is contributing to this is the images are not resized or resampled PRIOR to inserting them into the page. For example, the Trader Joe's image on the site is 120 X 20 pixels, but copying and pasting that same image into Paint.NET results in an image that is 332 X 38 pixels. I suspect that you may be inserting the original image (332 X 38) and then resizing it by dragging a corner of the image to make it fit properly on the web page. Each image that I checked exhibited the same thing. Try resampling to original images to the final (web) size, save them and then insert them into the page.

<P ID="edit" class=small>(Edited by mbarron on 02-Apr-08 13:28. Rearranged the order of the logo examples)</P>Try changing the size of the images within Irfanview to the size you need on the website instead of having the html code doing the resize.

For example, the Big Lots logo is 137x99 (pixels) shrunken down to 50x40 using the coding:

Thanks to all for the help. I have reworked the logos... more to do but much better than before.
