What DVD drive is this?

I HAVE looked on Google; I've looked through my paperwork; I've looked on the Device Manager listing.

I cannot find the brand of my DVD drive.

The Device Manage gives me back "HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GSA-H60L ATA", as does my paperwork.

How the heck do I find the mfg. for this?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

    Jefferson:

So the drive is an HP? 'Cause they don't "own" all the hardware that's in this machine -- hd's are Hitachi's for example.

So the drive is an HP?

I didn't say that. I saw a download for it on HP's web site and thought you might be able to grab that file and use a hex editor to find the copyright notice.

Re: What DVD drive is this?

If you Google on just the part number (GSA-H60L), what do you get?

    Something that suggests Hitachi-LG perhaps?
(As in HL-DT-ST = Hitachi LG - DaTa - STorage...)

Of course, you could always just pull it out and see what the manufacturer's sticker says...

    Leif:

I had thought that the part number was HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GSA-H60L ATA, which brought up Nada.

And, quite frankly, the LAST thing I ever want to do is star pulling apart the system... unless I must. Bad eyes and the coordination of a drunk turkey make hardware my least favorite thing to delve into hands-on.

    Thanks.

Re: What DVD drive is this?

I have a device with a similar name: HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H22N on one of my PCs. It's made by LG.
My Dell Vostro PC has a DVD R/W drive named HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H73N, but it doesn't handle RAM drives.
