    COUNT IF (excel 2003)

    According to the count if function, I only know how to do it for one column.

    I am trying to count the totals for one person and copy on another page.

    sum of column L if column J = Smith
    sum of column L if column J = jones

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

    The SUMIF function lets you specify a range to test the condition on, and another range to sum:

    =SUMIF(test_range, condition, sum_range)

    In your example, you can enter the formula
    <code>
    =SUMIF('ins and outs 4-08'!$J$3:$J$26,A6,'ins and outs 4-08'!$L$3:$L$26)
    </code>
    in cell B6 on the Summary sheet, and fill down. (The formula will return 0 in B6 because the name 'Bouffard' doesn't occur, but it will return a positive amount in B7)

    Re: COUNT IF (excel 2003)

    You want SUMIF not COUNTIF - put this in B6 on the Summary sheet and copy down as required:
    <code>=SUMIF('ins and outs 4-08'!J:J,A6,'ins and outs 4-08'!L:L)</code>
