    Search Results - Save (home/sr 2)

How to save the Results of a search, not the query word.

I click Save Search, indicate Desktop, but all that's saved is the query word. I thought I saw a useful submenu under File/Save Search, but I cannot replicate what I thought I saw.

    Thank you, as always.

Why would you want to do that? The results of a search represent the situation at the time you searched. A few days later, some of the files may have been modified, moved or deleted, so the saved search results have become invalid.

    Re: Search Results - Save (home/sr 2)

    Morning -

We would like to save the results because the author I am working with has a non-organized way of working and has needed files in various directories. We want to find files with certain words in them. Those files have not been modified in weeks. Since there could be many files, it would be helpful to be able to save the results to be able to refer to them in different edit sessions.

As far as I know what you want is not possible - Windows doesn't let you copy files from Search Results to elsewhere.

Locate32 will do that for you, and a lot more - far superior to the XP search/ find feature IMHO. Note that you might find occassional bugs though, since it's being continually developed/ upgraded.

And, to answer my own question:

I realized you can Print Screen the results and then paste that into a document and, if needed, adjust the zoom level.

    Hope this helps others.

That works well as long as the number of found files is limited. If there are hundreds of them, you'd need a screen grabber that lets you grab a scrolling window (and even then, it's tedious).

Now here's an oldie from more than 10 years ago that STILL works! I just did a test with my copy of FileGrab - Downloads by PC Magazine after running an XP Explorer search and dragging the resulting list to the FileGrab window and it will work under XP. As I said, it's very, very old, but evidently still works.

    Morning, Big Al -

Thanks much for your link - and for testing it first!
