    recordset not updateable (2007)

    I have a form frmFamilies with a subform frmIndividuals
    They are linked by fields FamID
    However, when the form is opened and a new record entered in the main form, there is not a new form created on the subform, and if I try to update to change anything in an existing subform record, I get the error flash in the status bar that says "This recordset is not updateable"
    Anyone know where my problem is from that limited amount of information?

    Can you enter/edit data in the subform if you open the subform by itself, i.e. directly from the database window?

    No, I can't. I hadn't noticed that.

    The reocrd source for that frmIndividuals is set to:
    SELECT tblIndividuals.*, tblFamily.Active
    FROM tblFamily INNER JOIN tblIndividuals ON (tblFamily.FamID = tblIndividuals.FamID);

    The Record Source of your subform apparently is a non-updateable query. There are several potential reasons for that:
    - A totals query is never updateable.
    - A query whose Unique Values property has been set to Yes is never updateable.
    - A union query is never updateable.
    - A query based on two or more tables is not updateable if there is no join between the tables, or if the join doesn't involve a unique index on one side of the join.
    - A query based on another non-updateable query isn't updateable either.

    If I change the recordsource simply to the tblIndividuals, it looks like it works OK

    Thanks, Hans--I'll look into those things, though I'm not remembering why I had that record source set to a query in the first place...
