    Updating links (Excel 2003)

    Hello All:

    I have an excel spreadsheet that is linked to a Word document - I need to add some columns to the table, but when I do, the new columns are truncated. I need to know how to get Word to recognize the new columns of the spreadsheet. As always, thanks in advance.

    Re: Updating links (Excel 2003)

    Click anywhere in the linked table in Word.
    Press Shift+F9 to view the field code.
    You'll see something like

    { LINK Excel.Sheet.8 "C:TestMyWorkbook.xls" Sheet1!R1C1:R13C4 a p }

    As you can see, the range is shown in R1C1 format.
    Edit the range to include the cells you want.
    Press F9 to hide the field code and to update the field.

    Alternatively, delete the linked table and create it anew.

    Re: Updating links (Excel 2003)

    Hi Bill,

    As a variation on hans' suggestion, given the range in Excel you want to link to a name (eg WordRange)

    Change the field code in Word from:
    { LINK Excel.Sheet.8 "C:TestMyWorkbook.xls" Sheet1!R1C1:R13C4 a p }
    to
    { LINK Excel.Sheet.8 "C:TestMyWorkbook.xls" WordRange a p }

    Then, should you decide at any time to expand/contract the number of rows and/or columns to be exported to Word, simply redefine the named range in Excel.
    Cheers,

    Thanks Paul. It's always good to have other avenues to approach.
