some files can contain viruses (Word 2002 XP SR3)

(Edited by HansV to make URL clickable - see <!help=19>Help 19<!/help>)

In a Word document I have links. When I click on the links the following message displays

    Opening <filename>
Some files can contain viruses or otherwise be harmful to your computer.
It is important to be certain that this file is from a trustworthy source.
Would you like to open this file?
    OK/Cancel

I would like to disable this message.

I found the following on Microsoft website. Ive applied solution 829072 without success.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829072/en-us
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291912/en-us

I've applied the the following soution again without success....
Turn off the "Confirm open after download" option for the file
type that you are trying to open

To do this, follow these steps:1. Double-click My Computer.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. On the File Types tab, select the appropriate file extension (for example, WMV) in the Registered File Types box, then click the Advanced button.
    4. Click to clear the Confirm open after download check box, then click the OK button.
    5. Click the Close button on the Folder Options dialog box.

Is there a way to disable this message?

I've read that files need to have digitial signatures so this message doesnt display?
    is this true?

    many thanks diana

I don't think this warning can be suppressed in Office XP. In Office 2003, there is a registry setting to disable hyperlink warnings, see How to disable hyperlink warning messages in Office 2003 but I don't think changing 11.0 to 10.0 will make it work with Office XP. You could try, though.

It would help if you posted "live links", i.e. working links to the MSFT articles. As to MSFT KB829072 article; which steps did you do, all? The KB829072 is for Office 2003. There are also articles that cover 2007 Office programs. The other KB article you mention (KB291912), do mention your Office version; Office 2002 [sic!] (i.e. XP) and application Word 2002.

Hyperlink warnings has nothing to do with macro security level settings (as you may have seen in the articles, and elsewhere), and thus nothing to do with digital signatures.

    thanks Hans, thanks Argus

in article KB829072 I applied all suggestions:

amended both registry keys under Office10.0
Method 1 - untick checkbox "Confirm open after download"
Method 2 - amend reg key for WMVfile

the result was the hyperlink message still displayed.

I'm afraid you'll have to live with the warnings.
