    Remove shading (2003)

I copied a cell from Excel and pasted it to my Word document by using the paste special feature (paste link as RTF). I want to remove the gray background but it wouldn't allow me. I tried the Format/Borders and Shading/ no fill but that does not work. Can anyone assist?

    Thank you.

The cell is shaded because it is a Word field. To hide the shading:
    Select Tools | Options...
Activate the View tab if necessary.
Click on the Field Shading dropdown.
Select either Never or When selected.
    Click OK.
